The report of the Economic Recovery Commission, chaired by Moya Greene, is coming down at noon today.
Premier Andrew Furey has already signaled that mass layoffs are not being contemplated to deal with the province’s fiscal situation.
Finance critic Tony Wakeham meanwhile applauds public consultations to follow the release of the long-awaited report but says many questions remain about what the province can expect.
He says before the election, the Greene report was being hyped as something that would inform the budget, but with that document expected on May 31st, that’s no longer possible.
Wakeham says they don’t know if it’s a “vision board or an action plan,” indicating that the communication coming from the Premier’s Office “seems to have changed considerably since before the election.”
