More help is coming for those dealing with the loss of a loved one due to a workplace injury or illness.

The provincial government is making changes to the Workplace, Health, Safety and Compensation Regulations to increase burial coverage.

Workplace NL says there are 25 work-related fatalities in the province each year. The majority of these are due to exposures to harmful substances years ago.

Families or estates of those who have been already paid burial expenses since January 1 will be contacted by Workplace NL to determine a retroactive payment.

Government says the change will reduce financial burden on families during difficult times.
