At least one person is asking about the value of public consultations in the wake of the Greene Report released last week.
Finance Minister Siobhan Coady announced that a public consultation process would be held even before the report was released.
She feels public consultation is important before any action is taken.
Terry Hussey with Vigilant Management, however, is one person who questions the value of public consultations. He believes they’re “an excuse to avoid making a hard choice.”
“What are they going to learn?” Hussey asks about government. He says the response to tough choices will be the same; if you tell people you’re going to cut their ferry or other services, or you’re going to tell them you’re raising their taxes, they’re going to say “No!”
Hussey says everybody is going to say no because they don’t want to take the pain.
