The MHA-elect for St. John’s East-Quidi Vidi will be officially sworn in tomorrow.
Liberal John Abbott defeated incumbent and NDP Leader Alison Coffin by 53 votes in the last provincial election which suddenly switched to what many believe to be a flawed mail-in ballot process when the northeast Avalon went into lockdown.
Coffin and the NDP challenged the results, seeking a recount in the district, but the judge dismissed the request citing a lack of specific evidence.
That was one of three applications before the court to overturn the results in three districts, the others being Mount Pearl North and St. Barbe – L’Anse aux Meadows. Those two other cases will be heard on Friday.
Abbott, who has been appointed as the Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, will be officially sworn in as MHA in the House of Assembly tomorrow morning at 9:30.
