There’s been a lot of renewed discussion on the concept of regionalization in delivering municipal services following the Greene Report released last week.
Municipalities NL has long been a proponent of regional services between towns and cities in the province.
Long-time firefighter Joe Power agrees it’s the way to go.
Power is the Fire Chief with the Labrador West Fire Department and the President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Fire Services. He says while the concept is a good one, he prefers the term “shared services.”
He’s not sure municipalities or fire departments want to hear it, but he doesn’t believe given the province’s fiscal situation there will be a lot of money to go around to equip fire departments, so shared services might be the way to go.
