A local weather forecasting company is working on a project to help workers traveling to the province’s offshore.
Wood’s Met-Ocean and Digital Environmental Solutions is based in St. John’s and provides meteorological and oceanographic services to the province’s offshore.
Under the current model, weather monitoring and forecasting are done using three separate processes. The new project would essentially integrate those systems into one.
The provincial government recently gave over $86,000 towards the initiative.
The company says the project will allow more accurate, automated, and shore-based forecasting, which will enhance safety for the oil and gas industry.
