The provincial budget comes down tomorrow and at least one business group wants to see some concrete action to address the growing debt.
According to the recent Greene Report, the province has posted deficits in 61 of the last 71 years.
That’s not sustainable says the Executive Director of the Newfoundland and Labrador Employers’ Council.
While many of the recommendations outlined in the Economic Recovery Team’s report won’t be implemented in this budget, Richard Alexander says there are still measures that can be taken immediately to curb spending.
While he’d like to see some definitive action taken, time is needed to implement meaningful changes, “hopefully they’ll come up with a plan that will be detailed, that will be transparent” and tell people in the province exactly what needs to be done, says Alexander.
