Dohey touched the lives of many, with his stories and deep knowledge of the province’s past—but perhaps few knew Dohey as well as the man who hired him at The Rooms.
Provincial Archivist and Director of the Provincial Archives Division at The Rooms, Greg Walsh says Dohey will be greatly missed, as describes him as “inspiring.”
Walsh says it’s always a goal of the archives division to express the importance of Newfoundland and Labrador’s vast history and culture—but Larry was outstanding in his field. Walsh says that’s due to his outgoing personality and generosity with his time.
He says people were lined up outside of The Rooms before it opened in order to express their condolences. Walsh says many visitors didn’t know Larry personally, but felt they did because of his warmth and helpful personality.
The Rooms has since set up a book of remembrance in the atrium, next to the provincial archives.
Walsh says they will all miss Dohey, as well as the human connection to this province’s past, and says they will carry on his legacy.
