There was trouble in a Paradise neighbourhood today, after a pressure surge resulted in a major backup at a troubled sewer station near St. Thomas Line and Topsail Road.
Mayor Dan Bobbett says there was a pressure surge in the system, and as result, sewage backed up on the site.

Both Bobbett and the Deputy Mayor met with a resident whose property was sprayed by the waste, to assess the situation and discuss immediate needs.
An environmental assessment is underway.
Video emerged from the area this morning, showing fluid spraying from the lift station and flooding some of the nearby area.
The system initially failed on Monday, August 12. However, due to a complex series of issues, emergency repairs were put on hold until new equipment could be shipped to the town.
Pumper trucks and holding tanks were enlisted to keep the works moving forward, at an estimated cost of $50,000 per day to the town. Currently, there is no timeline for the completion of repairs.
The lift station sees an estimated 75 per cent of the town’s waste on its way to the St. Thomas Line treatment facility.
