The member of parliament for St. John’s-East says it is time to “pass the torch” as he prepares to leave politics after the next federal election.
Jack Harris recently announced that he will not be seeking reelection when the next election is called, ending a 25-year career in politics.
He believes the time is right for him to step aside and let someone else take on the causes he has been fighting for.
When asked to reflect on his career and some of his time in office, Harris says he’s “not really in that mode yet.”
However, he notes that at the start of his political career he was in the House of Commons in the early days of the free trade agreement and the Meech lake accord.
He says there were many highlights during his time in both provincial and federal politics.
