The test results are in from Salmon Cove, and there is “no problem for human health whatsoever” as it relates to discoloured water found at Forest Pond.
That’s according to Environment and Climate Change Minister, Bernard Davis. He and local MHA Steve Crocker met with town officials recently about the situation.
Davis says they still are waiting to hear back on information about discharge from the nearby waste management site.
While he believes that discharge is a “contributing factor,” he highlights other environmental elements at play.
He says a “perfect storm” of direct sunlight, low water, and warm temperatures was present and allowed the algae to thrive.
Once all test results come back, officials will determine how to move forward. According to Davis the algae forms in cycles and the situation is on the decline.
