Regatta Day races at Quidi Vidi Lake are returning this August, and so is the accompanying statutory holiday.
Yesterday, the Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee announced that the races will be going ahead, but the games and concessions that usually take place will not be allowed due to COVID protocols.
Last year, the typical Regatta Day holiday was moved to the Monday due to the races being cancelled. However, according to President Bradley Power, this year it is the intent of everyone involved to have the holiday on Regatta Day.
Power believes keeping the traditional holiday will help with crowd control down at the lake.
They felt—especially with no vendors—that Wednesday was the safest day to have the holiday.
