Harbour Grace is joining forces with TaDa! Events to host a kite festival. Come Fly With Us will take place at the town’s historic airstrip from where Amelia Earhart made her solo transatlantic flight in 1932.
Matt McCarthy with the town of Harbour Grace says the event, scheduled for Saturday, July 31st, will coincide with the 158th annual Harbour Grace Regatta.
He calls it a unique opportunity for families to come out, pack a picnic, and fly a kite. This year they will be paying special tribute to local aviation enthusiast and pilot Claude Stevenson who dedicated his time and efforts to preserving and maintaining the historic airstrip.

McCarthy says Terri Andrews and her sister Jeannie Harding of TaDa! Events came to the town with the idea.
They’re starting small, but depending on the level of interest, they’re hoping to make it an annual event. McCarthy says the festival will include musical entertainment and a special appearance by a character from the town’s storied history.
