Canada Fluorspar Inc and the town of St. Lawrence are celebrating a milestone in the local industry with the first shipment of fluorspar from the town in over 30 years.
The first shipment was loaded on the FWN Paula, which was docked at the newly-constructed marine terminal on Blue Beach in St. Lawrence.
Since 2018, CFI has been loading shipments at the Kiewit Cow Head terminal in Marystown. However, it says the new terminal is able to accommodate larger ore carriers and is closer to CFI’s mill—allowing them to more than double their daily loading rates.
St. Lawrence mayor Jack Walsh says it’s good to see ore carriers back in the local harbour for the first time since 1990.
