Some scary moments for the Rainbow Riders Therapeutic Centre yesterday after two forest fires came too close for comfort.
The RNC stopped in, followed by a call from St. John’s Regional warning them to take evacuation precautions and be prepared to move their 15 horses.
Kelly Sandoval, executive director of Rainbow Riders says it was scary and tensions were high as they tried to calm the nervous horses and get them off the property.
Sandoval says people responded quickly to the call for help and they are very thankful. She says a lot of people heard on the news what was happening and came with their trailers to help take the horses from the area.
Sandoval says the horse community was incredible as was the RNC, fire department and the Department of Natural Resources.
Rainbow Riders has operated a therapeutic riding program for over 20 years to help Newfoundland and Labrador children grow and develop despite physical, cognitive and emotional disabilities.
Very grateful to #SJRFD for containing the fire that threatened our facility in Pippy Park today. Also thanks to the horse community who rallied to provide accommodations & trailering of our herd to ensure their safety. Feeling very lucky everything & everyone is ok!🌈🐎
