A woman from this province is the newest and youngest NBA player agent in Canada, and she’s hoping to make a big difference in her new role.
Stacey Leawood, 24, who is originally from Mount Pearl, now lives in Toronto.
Her love of the game started at a very young age, and she says people used to comment that she knows too much about the industry not to work in it.
Last year she submitted an application to become a certified player agent, and earlier this year passed the exam needed to become certified.
Leawood says it’s always something she wanted to do but didn’t think she could. Now, she says she has a unique opportunity to help players and break down barriers for others to get into the industry.
Leawood says there isn’t a sports management degree program in Newfoundland, so some might think it’s not possible to work in sports, which she contends isn’t true. She thinks it’s special that she could be an example for others to chase their dream.
