RCMP say they have apprehended a wanted man in central Newfoundland.
An arrest warrant was issued Thursday for 38-year-old Matthew Payne for violation of his parole.
Payne has a criminal history including escaping custody, uttering threats, resisting arrest, as well as breaches of court orders.
He also made headlines in 2019 after filing an application requesting a stay of proceedings due to the time spent in RCMP holding cells and Her Majesty’s Penitentiary.
Payne was in the RCMP holding cells in Grand Falls-Windsor for longer than the maximum 96 hours, as outlined in the Mountie’s own operation policy.
