Residents and families in the Placentia area are very concerned and upset after a case of COVID-19 was recently confirmed to be linked to Laval High School.
School is open today as contact tracing and testing continues. Even those identified as high-risk contacts and are awaiting testing have been given the green light to return to school as long as they are fully vaccinated and are not experiencing any symptoms.
Mayor Bernie Power says residents in the town are very uneasy with the decision to keep the school open.
Testing was done in the community yesterday and residents are anxiously awaiting those results, according to Power.

According to the English School District, students and staff who have not been identified as a “high-risk contact” can return to school as long as they are not experiencing any COVID-like symptoms.
Students and staff who were contacted by Public Health as a “high-risk contact” can also return to school while they await their test results, provided they are fully vaccinated (meaning more than 14 days have passed since their second COVID shot) and they are not experiencing any COVID symptoms.
Students and staff who were identified by Public Health as “high-risk” contacts, and who are not fully vaccinated, must isolate for 14 days from the date of potential exposure.
Students will be contacted by their teachers to ensure they are able to continue learning from home.
