The province’s finance minister says there are positive signs that Newfoundland and Labrador’s economy is rebounding from the lows of the pandemic.
Siobhan Coady says there are many sectors that have seen increases toward pre-pandemic levels.
Compared with the same period in 2019, retails sales are up 13 per cent, home sales are up almost 70 per cent, the price of a home is up 12 per cent, and international exports of minerals and related products have increased by about 70 per cent.
However, Coady says not all sectors are performing as well, noting oil production is still down 3.2 per cent and the labour market is still struggling to recover.
But she insists it is “steadily improving,” while acknowledging employment levels are still down 4.3 per cent from 2019 levels.
