The Liberal MP for Labrador says the federal government has pumped nearly $30-million into Innu communities in the last year.
Yvonne Jones was responding to criticism leveled against her and the federal government by the Innu Nation following the signing last week of an MOU with the NunatuKavut Community Council.
The Innu Nation has long questioned the legitimacy of the NCC, which claims to represent southern Inuit in Labrador.
Grand Chief Rich says NCC’s maps and claims are offensive to the Innu and pointed the finger at Yvonne Jones for “putting her own self-interests as a member of the NCC in front of her responsibility to all constituents in Labrador.”
Jones says the federal government supports all Indigenous groups and she cited the support the Innu Nation has received from Ottawa this year alone.
