Newfoundland has seen its share of rare birds in recent months but one special bird has avid birdwatchers feeling as if they’ve won the jackpot.
A brown booby, a seabird common in equatorial waters, has been wowing birders in St. John’s harbour.
Bruce Mactavish and others managed to capture the creature on camera, sharing images on the Newfoundland Birdwatching group Facebook page.
Mactavish called the sighting a “rush”, while Shawn Fitzpatrick, who also captured images of the rare southern visitor, called it the “Booby prize.”
