Federally-regulated operations, including unions, are doing a deep dive into the Government of Canada’s new mandatory vaccination policy.
It covers all federal employees, including those in the marine, rail and airline sectors, as well as the RCMP.
Employees have until month’s end to get vaccinated or face time off work without pay.
The Public Service Alliance of Canada supports mandatory vaccination, but was given a copy of the policy only one business day before the public release.
Nevertheless, union spokesperson Colleen Coffey says they did present some recommendations to government.
Coffey says they’re wondering about what employees are expected to show as proof, how government is going to store that private information, how long are they going to keep it and who are they going to share it with.
Marine Atlantic, being a Crown corporation, will have to require all employees to be vaccinated but it’s working with Transport Canada regarding the requirements of customers.
