It’s a first in the province. A major downtown structure has received the Rick Hansen Foundation’s Accessibility Certified Gold rating.
The Man in Motion himself, disability advocate Rick Hansen was on hand to present 351 Water Street as well as the Husky Energy Offices with his seal of approval.
351 also houses a Starbucks and the Fish Exchange restaurant. It is owned by TD Greystone and managed by East Port Properties.
Over 550 people work in the building, besides customers and visitors. It is equipped with sensor-activated lights, automatic doors, wide halls and aisles, and counters and storage that all levels of ability can access, among other features.
Over 1,200 buildings across the country have been rated by the foundation. Today’s announcement represents the first two ratings for Newfoundland and Labrador.
