While detouring highway traffic through Avondale may be inconvenient, the provincial government says completing culvert repairs now could save a lot of stress down the road.
Transportation and Works Minister Steve Crocker says the decision to replace the aging infrastructure was a proactive one.
He says it’s a necessary job that needs to be taken care of now. Otherwise they might be forced to divert traffic during winter—in much less favourable conditions.

Starting Friday evening at 6:30, traffic on the TCH will be diverted through Avondale and Salmonier Line.
Minister Crocker says the detour would ideally only add about 20 minutes to one’s commute, but that is unlikely.
Crocker says there will be traffic issues this weekend. He says it’s unfortunate, but the most efficient and effective way to complete the work.
Barring unforeseen circumstances the highway will reopen on Tuesday morning.
