The provincial government is introducing a redesigned provincial licence plate in honour of its come home year celebrations.
2022 has been marked as a come home year in Newfoundland and Labrador.
When such celebrations were held in 1966, the government at the time issued a special license plate to mark the occasion. Premier Andrew Furey says they felt like something similar was needed this time around as well.
The plate is white and blue, with a whale coming out of the water in the background. The bottom reads “Come Home 2022.”
Minister of Digital Government and Service NL, Sarah Stoodley explains that the plates will be available beginning in January.
She says they will be made available to anyone who buys a new car in 2022, and anyone who needs a replacement plate. A mechanism will be put in place for people who would like to buy one as well.
