A volunteer with the local SPCA has been named the winner of this year’s Gordon Seabright Volunteer Award.
Launched by the VOCM Cares Foundation in 2014, the award recognizes someone who has made outstanding contributions to their community through volunteerism.
Marnie Taylor, a long-time supporter of the SPCA, says it feels fantastic to receive the award, but volunteering is a reward all in itself.
She says some of the best gifts you can give are your time and effort.
Courtney Langille, the great-niece of Gordon Seabright, says it’s all about celebrating unsung community heroes.
By acknowledging the achievements of volunteers, she feels it will inspire others to get involved—not just to be forwardly recognized or receive pay, but to know they helped bring real change by improving their community.
Along with the award, the VOCM Cares Foundation will make a $1,000 donation to the charity of the recipient’s choosing.
