The town of Gander is coming to grips with the disappearance of two young men who departed Lawrence Harbour last weekend.

The men, a 20-year-old from Gander, and his friend, a 30-year-old who was training in the airport town, went missing after a boating trip last Saturday. The men were reported overdue on Sunday, and their overturned boat and belongings were found on Monday about 3 km off Black Island.

The official search shifted to a recovery effort this week, with extensive efforts underway to locate the men.

Gander Mayor Percy Farwell says his heart goes out to the families.

He says a shadow has been cast over the town.
