The provincial government is going to review the Public Utilities Act, one of the recommendations of the Muskrat Falls Inquiry.
The Act was adopted in 1989 and amended on a number of occasions, most recently to support a new electrical system operator for the province and establish a transmission tariff to be applied when moving electricity through Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Public Utilities Board, which was established by the Act, is responsible for the regulation of utilities in the province, automobile insurance rates, the Expropriation Act, and the Petroleum Products Act.
Minister John Hogan anticipates that the review will begin early in the new year.
