The Town of CBS is honouring the 16 days against gender-based violence.
For the first time, the town of Conception Bay South will be flying the purple ribbon flag as part of the international campaign against gender-based violence.
A special ceremony was held this morning in the Council Chambers of the Town Hall remembering victims and raising awareness of domestic and gender-based violence.
The flag was presented to Mayor Darrin Bent by Philip and Debbie Hibbs, whose daughter Juliane Hibbs and her boyfriend Vince Dillon were shot and killed in 2013 by a man who was involved in a relationship with Hibbs many years earlier.

Mayor Darrin Bent stressed the importance of the event, saying that awareness is key.
The Hibbs family are encouraging anyone suffering from domestic violence to speak up and get help.
The flag is flying on Peacekeepers Way.
Meanwhile, a purple ribbon flag is also flying at Confederation Building.
The Minister Responsible for the Office of Women and Gender Equality, Pam Parsons, was joined by the Hibbs family and advocate Martha Muzychka to start the 16-day campaign.
Confederation building will be lit purple tonight to support the victims.
