The Newfoundland Growlers have announced a new professional team, however this time, they’ll be hitting the court.
The Newfoundland Growlers Basketball Club will become the 10th team in the rapidly growing Canadian Elite Basketball League.
Playing out of MUN’s Field House, the team’s season will run opposite to the Seahawks in the spring and summer months.
The Growlers will be giving $75,000 dollars annually to the school, which will go to development programs and scholarships.
In addition, a position on the team’s roster will be held for a MUN Seahawks player.

While the Field House was not built to house large sporting event, Chair of MUN’s Recreation Complex Bill Thistle says work is underway to get capacity to 2500.
The team will play their first game this upcoming season, which kicks off on May.
The hiring of coaches and players is underway, with more details coming in the future.
