The lineup of truckers stuck waiting to board the Argentia ferry are now are getting some relief, thanks to a group of locals.
Long lineups of transport trucks began to form as they waited to board the ferries, after the storm on the southwest coast redirected service to Argentia.
Many of the truckers have been stuck in the lineup for days now, with some waiting 36 hours just to get through the gates.
Justin Birnbaum, one of the truckers in line, says they started to get hungry.
He says they couldn’t move out of the line until they understood the scenario, for fear of losing their spot.
However, that’s when the people of the Placentia area stepped up.
A “Help the truck drivers – Argentia NL” Facebook group was formed, and the community began organizing fast food, pizza, coffee, and refreshments drop-offs to those behind the wheel.
Birnbaum calls it a “godsend”.
He says it’s very isolating out there, but when you see a sign of good faith from good people, it helps a lot.
