Three people have been recognized with Human Rights Awards in a ceremony at Government House.
22-year-old John Mweemba, a fourth-year political science, and law and society double major student at Memorial University, was recognized for his involvement with the Black Students’ Association at MUN, and for helping to raise awareness of black history and racism.
Glenn Roil was recognized as a global mental health advocate with a mission to de-stigmatize mental illness and mental health.
Inuk activist, the late Delilah Saunders was also recognized for her work in helping raise awareness about violence against Indigenous women and girls, following the murder of her sister Loretta Saunders in 2014.
She was also an outspoken advocate for Indigenous land rights and land protection.
