The President of Memorial University says no student has been banned from campus for protesting.
Vianne Timmons is limited in what she can say in response to a student who is no longer able to access campus except to attend class or exams.
Matt Barter has waged a campaign to have Timmins removed as President in light of recent tuition increases at MUN.
Timmons says she cannot speak to individual cases.
She says a student’s privacy is important, but that can present challenges because they cannot speak to specific issues that are raised in the public realm.
Memorial University last week indicated that bans are based on a number of factors outlined in the student Code of Conduct, and usually involve an escalation in behaviour. In the meantime, Timmons says the university upholds a student’s right to protest.
