The Opposition is commending government for its new renewable energy plan, but with some reservations.
The provincial government unveiled the plan Thursday, noting it supports the transition to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
It includes overviews and future hopes for sources such as hydro, wind, biogas and solar power.
PC energy critic Lloyd Parrott says while he’s pleased government incorporated elements of the Tory Blue Book, such as the potential for wind energy into the plan, he’s wary of government’s overall commitment.
Parrott says he supports the development of renewable energy and reducing the province’s reliance on fossil fuels while keeping residents employed.
However, he notes the plan is two years overdue, lacks timelines and has not been costed.
He’s calling on government to set firm, measurable targets and ensure there is a smooth transition for workers.
