A brand new Newfoundland card game is hitting the market this Christmas.
“The Game of Tings”, produced by Half Sensible Company, is a Newfoundland party card game similar to Apples to Apples or Cards Against Humanity, that uses Newfoundland phrases and quirks as prompts for players to write their own responses.
The game was designed by Jeremy Nippard and his 13-year-old daughter while in lockdown.
He says his family was going a little stir-crazy, so to combat that they started playing board games. He says they played so many board games they ran out, so him and his daughter created their own.
Nippard provided Your VOCM Mornings Host Gerri Lynn Mackey with a demonstration on how it all works.
He says you pull a prompt card, for example, “Things you might find in a margarine tub that isn’t margarine”, and then players come up with a response, such as “grandmother’s slush”. The person who pulled the prompt card then awards their favourite response with a point.
Nippard said they sold out of their beta copy in just a week, and are now looking to release their retail edition. The game is available through their Facebook page.
