A few tips from the St. John’s Regional Fire Department for those firing off their own fireworks this evening.
Those using personal fireworks are being reminded to choose a clear, open area away from buildings, vehicles, and clear of power lines or dry grass or brush.
Check the wind direction and speed, and light them with the prevailing wind blowing away from spectators.
Keep a water hose or bucket nearby in case of a misfire or malfunction, wear proper eye protection and clothing and keep children away from fireworks.
Finally, don’t forget to clean up after the show, but wait about 30 minutes before you do.
Check for duds and dispose of fireworks in a pail of water.
