Residents of St. John’s are now required to use clear bags for the garbage they put out to the curb.
It’s part of the city’s efforts to impose mandatory recycling.
Clear bags allow collectors to assess what items are being thrown out that should have been recycled.
Residents will be allowed one opaque, or black or green, garbage bag for privacy reasons, per week.
The new regulations come into effect as of today.
On Jan 1, garbage put at the curb in St. John’s must be in clear, colourless bags – except for one 'privacy' bag per week that can be an opaque, non-transparent (i.e. black, white, etc.) bag.
