The city of St. John’s is responding to a graphic scene that unfolded at the Loop on New Year’s Day.
Kaley Hogan’s 5-year-old son was skating with his father and older sister when the child fell as a group of skaters, who were going quite fast, went by. One of them skated over the boy’s hand, slicing into his pinky.
Doctors were able to save the boy’s finger.
Now, his mother is calling on the city to increase security at the Loop to monitor skaters.
Mayor Danny Breen says he became aware of the incident through social media. He has connected with the boy’s family, noting that they have his information and will be in touch to discuss the situation further.
As to any specific action that can be taken, Breen notes that no decisions have yet been made.
Once they have gathered all the information, Breen says the city will decide on whether changes are needed.
