A winter double-combo storm is barreling through the Maritimes on its way to Newfoundland.
It will dump up to 35cm of snow on the island with the heaviest snow along the northeast coast, on the Great Northern Peninsula and in Grand Falls-Windsor, where blizzard warnings are out.
The snow begins tonight and continues into tomorrow but it’s tomorrow when the winds pick up significantly.
Meteorologist Tiffany Cheeks of the Gander Weather Office says the Avalon, Clarenville and Marystown regions escape the worst of the snow, but not the wind.
Northwesterly winds will howl in the afternoon with gusts in exposed areas to 100kmh, then up to 130kmh by suppertime.
