The trial for a high school teacher accused of having sexual contact with an underage student won’t start until next year.
Krysta Grimes, 33, is accused of touching a male student for a sexual purpose between March and June of 2018. It’s alleged to have occurred in Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove while she was a substitute teacher and in a position of trust.
Grimes’ jury trial was due to start last March but was delayed due to the pandemic. It was rescheduled for this past November, but again postponed when there was a change in defence lawyers.
In Supreme Court this morning, a new trial date was set for January 11, 2023, exactly one year from today.
Grimes has been free on conditions since being charged in 2019 and ordered to have no contact with the student involved, whose identity is protected by the court.
Grimes is one of two local high school teachers currently facing sex charges.
Thirty-nine-year-old Noel Strapp of Harbour Main is charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation against a female student.
The verdict in that case is expected on January 25.
Both Strapp and Grimes remain suspended from their teaching positions pending the outcome of their trials.
