The lawyer representing Douglas Snelgrove is arguing that his client’s suspension from the RNC without pay is “unreasonable” and should be reconsidered.
John Drover made his arguments in court today as part of an ongoing judicial review into Snelgrove’s case.
Snelgrove is awaiting retrial on a charge of sexual assault. The case received huge public reaction when he was acquitted by a jury in February of 2017. Protests were held outside the Supreme Court in response.
A second trial has been ordered by the provincial court of appeal.
Drover, who represents the RNCA, tells VOCM News that the decision not to pay Snelgrove while under suspension is “unreasonable” and missed a number of factors. He’s asking that it be sent back to the Chief for reconsideration.
Snelgrove’s retrial is scheduled for March of 2020.
