Gander has brought down its 2022 budget worth $20-million, a 5 per cent increase over last year. It means that most will be paying higher taxes.
The residential water and sewer levy goes up by $100 a year to $550, an increase of $15 or $16 a month for a house valued at $250,000. The residential mil rate goes to 7.6 from 7.3 and for commercial to 7.7 from 7.15 mils. The town has also created what it’s calling a more equitable commercial tax system which will bring in an additional $240,000. Councillor Wilson Hoffe says some will see a slight decrease in taxes while others a slight increase.
Hoffe says they will also invest $450,000 toward the development of 15 acres in the area of Cooper and James Boulevards in partnership with the Gander Airport Authority to solidify its position as a service hub for the area.
