Some light is being shed on the problems that have been plaguing the Paul Reynolds Community Centre over the last number of years.
Last Wednesday city council approved a bid from Newfound Mechanical Limited for emergency repairs to the centre’s HVAC system. to the tune of $935,000.
A description of the work to be done, listed in this week’s city council agenda, says they have been experiencing issues with the system and its ability to maintain humidity and moisture control within the building.
It says the excessive moisture is causing the corrosion of building infrastructure, such as electronics, exercise equipment and fire and life safety response systems, and must be fixed to avoid increased costs and safety concerns.
Also included in the contract is work to address standing water issues with the centre’s water slide tower.
The work to be done requires 35 working days to be completed.
The Paul Reynolds Centre is scheduled to reopen on October 28.
