A fundraiser in honour of Betty White is paying off for a local organization.
The “Betty White Challenge,” a fan initiative to commemorate what would’ve been the “Golden Girls” star’s 100th birthday, challenges her fans to donate $5 dollars to a local animal shelter.
As a result of the challenge, the St. John’s SPCA has received over $14,000, with upwards of 580 people coming forward with donations.
Fund manager Natashia Reddigan says Betty White was known for her love of animals.
She says Betty spent over 50 years working at the L.A. Zoo, and even wrote a book about it. She was an advocate for animal welfare, at one point owning over 26 animals.
Reddigan says the money will help medically treat and care for 30 animals in the shelter.
