A crew hiking in Gros Morne was left with some fantastic footage when they had a close encounter of the hooved kind.

Video posted on Facebook by Gros Morne Adventures shows the moments a group of hikers came face to face with a moose and her calf on the tail end of a four-day hike on the Long Range Traverse.

The clip shows both animals climb onto a wooden overlook a matter of feet from where the group was standing, before they rush back into the brush on the opposite side.

Fortunately, the camera was rolling in time to catch the spectacle as the moose continued on their way.

While perhaps surprised, the hikers were left with a great story to share, none the worse for the ordeal.
