The City of St. John’s has tabled a province-wide initiative to make our communities more inclusive towards breastfeeding.
Last night at city hall, Deputy Mayor Sheilagh O’Leary tabled a resolution, to be looked at during the Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador AGM in November, that would see communities across the province work to support breastfeeding families and remove the barriers they face.
This would involve working with the Baby Friendly Council of NL and other healthcare organizations to make all public spaces welcoming to those who breastfeed.
O’Leary says creating those safe spaces is important.
She says the choice to breastfeed in public is up to the parent, but they want to provide the healthiest and safest choices possible for families.
