A 23-year-old Marystown man is facing numerous charges, including assaulting a police officer with a weapon—the weapon being a car—following an incident on Monday.
Burin Peninsula RCMP had been looking to arrest Bradley Mayo of Marystown in connection with two break and enters that occurred in Boat Harbour and Terrenceville.
Mayo, who was on probation for other criminal convictions, was located at a gas station in Marystown shortly before 2:30 a.m. Monday.
As he walked toward a car, police yelled for him to stop but Mayo got in the vehicle anyway. An officer then opened the door to arrest him. It’s alleged that Mayo then revved the engine, put the vehicle in reverse, and struck another officer, resulting in minor injuries. Police say the owner of the vehicle was also struck, but was uninjured.
Mayo ended up stalling the car, and resisted police attempts to bring him into custody.
He’s facing a long list of charges, including two counts of break and enter, two counts of disguise with intent, three counts of assaulting a police officer, and assaulting a police officer with a weapon.
Mayo was remanded to custody during a court appearance on Monday. His next appearance is February 16.
