The local Jewish community is set to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day with a short virtual ceremony tomorrow.
Tomorrow is the 77th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi Concentration Camp Auschwitz.
On January 27, 1945 that concentration camp was liberated by troops from the Soviet Union, as the horrifying truth of the atrocities committed by the Nazis during the war came to light.
According to the Jewish community, remembering the victims of the Holocaust and Nazi tyranny delivers a message that such crimes should never happen again.
Normally, Holocaust memorial services are organized to coincide with the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. However, such services were cancelled the last two years, and there is no certainty that one can be held this year.
As such, a short virtual ceremony is being held tomorrow from 5:30 to 6 p.m.
Anyone interested in attending is asked to contact the Jewish Community Havura at jchavura@gmail.com.
