It’s been quite a mild winter thus far in the metro region, though it is not clear yet if the lack of snow will generate any savings for the capital city.
There hasn’t been much on the ground for prolonged periods so far this winter, with much of the snow that was around the city taking a cutting with the heavy rain and warm temperatures over the weekend.
St. John’s Mayor Danny Breen says while this winter has been a good one thus far, a lot of the extra expenses from snow clearing comes from when there are back-to-back snowfalls, resulting in snow removal operations and overtime.
Therefore, he says there isn’t much in terms of savings from the lack of snow, but it is a good thing in that they aren’t incurring the extra costs of back-to-back storms.
