An announcement is coming soon regarding high-speed internet service for all areas of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Federal Innovation Minister and Newfoundland MP Gudie Hutchings spilled the beans during a virtual media briefing yesterday.
It was called to announce almost a million dollars to help bring high-speed service to the neighbouring Labrador communities of North West River and Sheshatshiu.
Asked when the entire province can expect such connectivity, Hutchings had this to say:
She said she didn’t want to “let the cat out of the bag,” but went on to say that Ottawa and the province is in the final stages of an agreement to connect all of the province with high-speed internet by 2026.
Yesterday’s announcement for the Lake Melville area also involves the Innu Development Limited Partnership and Big Land Networks.
Ottawa is providing $929,000 of the total $1.2 million cost.
